Warning: Kazaa

Just a heads-up: Verizon failed to defend the case against the RIAA(Recording Industry Association of America) to protect the identities behind IP(Internet Protocol) addresses. As a result, the RIAA(Recording Industry Association of America) has been serving up subpoenas for hundreds of Kazaa users every day. One of the criteria that they use is if you share a few hundred songs. They're suing for $150,000 per song, but are "open to negotiation". Dunno how many of you guys use Kazaa or Kazaa Lite, but it may be wise to lie low if you do.

Just curious--what is your source on that? I heard (indirectly) from the Seattle Post-Intelligence that they were suing KaZaA users at random.

I also heard that they don't go after you if you disable file-sharing (it's in the options menu).

Truth?

A few things: first, I'd get off Kazaa too if I used it. Second, if you disable file sharing like everyone else will, then the network very quickly loses all its content. Thirdly, switch to Direct Connect or its open-source client DC++. If you go to the former page you'll see how much data is online. It's also much safer in terms of being not sued, since most of the hubs are overseas and private.

Of course, if WASTE were more developed everyone would be safe and happy.
