Hello everybody! My first Blog woo hoo.
One of the things that really boggles my mind is what is good and evil. Is their even such a thing. A lot of people say that Adolph Hitler was evil. But I bet according to him he was good. And he probably thought we were evil for trying to stop him. So all good and evil really is are two different points of view. Then why is it even an insult to say someone is "evil." All your really saying when you say someone is evil is that they have a different point of view then you. So why do we take such huge offense when somebody says we have a different point of view. I don't know. A lot of people say that fighting a war just because you don't agree with someone is bad. But that's all any war has ever been fought over. So how can we really justify any war? We can't! So what's the point? There is no point! There is no possible way anybody could know what is truly good or evil. So why beat somebody up over it? Because humans have a very major flaw. They will believe that they understand what the right way to do things is and then they will enforce it on everybody else. The problem is right and wrong are two of the most veg words in the English language. There is know way that you can come up with guidelines for what exactly right and wrong is. So people have gotten it in their heads to try to make them up. Unfortunately not everybody makes up the same thing and that is why you have wars.
Good and evil are relative. How much we care about whether someone calls us good or evil depends upon our respect for the person's opinion and whether or not you need to work with him in the future. Good and evil being relative does not mean we should do nothing in the way of trying to establish justice; just imagine the world with nothing criminalized and I think you would agree that the establishing of generally accepted terms for what is "wrong" is very beneficial overall. You just cannot claim it to be an absolute and non-evolving definition.
It is not quite just a different point of view; it is a different moral point of view. It is the difference between you liking red and I liking blue; different points of view, but I doubt anyone would say one of us was evil and the other good for it. On the other hand, if you said that you liked Macintoshes... =p
Anyway, welcome to FallenEarth. I hope you enjoy your time here.
(As a side note, with the new way the blogs page is updated... people no longer have to notify me when they make their first post. So that makes it easier for you guys to get first post, if anyone cares =p)
Posted by: caiuschen on March 16, 2003 12:58 AMMmm, first comment, without cheap tactics! The relativity of ideas and words is always a good topic for blog entries, in my opinion. It usually brings into light the thoughts and opinions you have about your own definition, but I don't see your opinions. What would you consider evil and good, or do you not make any distinguishment between the two?
Posted by: Lidor on March 16, 2003 12:59 AMDamn it! I knew I should posted first, read later!
Posted by: Lidor on March 16, 2003 01:00 AMTechnically I'm fourth. But really, I'm third.
Is it a cycle?
Anywho, welcome.

So what's the solution? Tolerate everything? That's fine if people with the same views group together in little circles and kill each other or do whatever only to each other, but what happens when they start branching out? You've eventually got to codify one view of right and wrong that everyone--or a lot of people--can deal with.
I don't feel like making this longer here. Maybe I'll blog on it. Good to have another jointer. I mean, blogger.
